Andrea Aversa

Born in Milan, Andrea Aversa lives and works in Paris. He constructs open-ended fictions from fragments gathered in archaeological sites, flea markets, museums, books and found images. Papier-mâché, wooden battens, postcards, pigments and analogue projection become the modest materials of deliberately unmonumental works. Through collage, assemblage and shifting configurations of light and colour, he brings different contexts and temporalities together without forcing them into a single narrative. His practice is rooted in popular culture yet often takes on a dreamlike, almost utopian dimension, pushing details to their limits in order to expose very real tensions. Each work tells a story while preserving doubt around its truth. Aversa calls these narratives fictional; their enduring quality is enigmatic.
