Marion Vallerin
Trained as an architect, Marion Vallerin has long practised painting and drawing, gradually making silk her principal medium. Noble, fluid and alive, the material requires her to relinquish a degree of control and let intuition enter the gesture. Working most often from photographic images, she explores the relationship between representation, memory and space. Her rich, precise palette draws on ancient references and Mediterranean landscapes whose vanishing points seem to open onto infinite horizons. Colour becomes a vehicle for impression and emotion, echoing the foundational influence of Matisse and the Fauvist painters’ encounter with southern light. Whether working alone or through live, two-handed performances, Vallerin involves the whole body in the act of painting, turning the emergence of an image into an experience shared between artist, material and viewer.
