ANNE FONTAINE
Born in Luxembourg and trained as a dancer, Anne Fontaine is a French director, screenwriter and former actress. She began acting in the 1980s before turning to directing in the early 1990s, and has since made close to twenty features without ever settling into a single register. Comedy, psychological drama, thriller, biopic and fable follow one another, held together by an attention to desire and to what people cannot explain about themselves. Coco avant Chanel, with Audrey Tautou, won the César for Best Adaptation and the BAFTA for Best Film Not in the English Language. Les Innocentes brought four César nominations, and Bolero returned to Ravel and the making of a single piece of music.
