HEFZA HERZI
A French director, screenwriter and actress of Algerian and Tunisian descent, Hafsia Herzi was raised in the northern districts of Marseille. She was revealed as an actress in Abdellatif Kechiche’s La Graine et le Mulet, which brought her the Marcello Mastroianni Prize in Venice and a César, and has since worked with Téchiné, Bonello and Mazuy, winning a second César for Le Ravissement. Her first two features as director were both selected at Cannes, Tu mérites un amour at Critics’ Week and Bonne Mère at Un Certain Regard, where it won the Ensemble Prize. La Petite Dernière, adapted from Fatima Daas, competed at Cannes and took the Queer Palm, and brought her the César for Best Director.
