Charlie Engman
Principled and irreverent at once, Charlie Engman is a photographer and director based in Brooklyn, working from bodies, gesture and colour pushed into theatrical, off-kilter staging. A degree in Japanese and Korean studies at Oxford and a training in modern dance underpin an approach he has carried from photography — at the edge of performance and portrait — into commercial filmmaking, most recently Deutsche Telekom’s Not a Passenger, a frenetic, punk road movie starring Rhian Teasdale of Wet Leg. He is a recognised figure in AI-generated imagery, and has spent over a decade photographing his mother for the book MOM, exhibited in Toronto and at the Lishui Biennale. His work has appeared in Vogue, i-D, Interview, GQ, Dazed and T: The New York Times Style Magazine, with clients including Prada, Hermès, Nike, Converse and Coach. He has been Art Director at Collina Strada since 2019.
