NEW DIRECTOR
AMY SARR
A Senegalese, French and American photographer and director, Amy Sarr moves through the worlds of art, fashion and music, drawn to individuals seen through culture, identity, history, belief and human connection. She studied social sciences at Sciences Po Paris and Columbia University, where anthropological and historical research first shaped her way of looking. In 2024 she completed an MA in photography at the Royal College of Art, receiving the Artful Dodgers Imaging Award for her graduate project So Long a Life, and published her first photobook, Seeking Solitude, previewed at Offprint London at Tate Modern. Her work has been shown at the Dakar Biennale OFF in 2022 and 2024 and at the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, and is held in the permanent collection of the Musée de la Photographie de Saint-Louis.
NEW DIRECTOR
CHARLIE ENGMAN
Pushing at the limits of conventional image making, principled and irreverent at once, Charlie Engman is a photographer, director and art director based in Brooklyn. He works from bodies, gesture and the strangeness that surfaces when an image is pushed slightly too far, drawing on a degree in Japanese and Korean studies at Oxford and a training in modern dance. He is a recognised figure in AI-generated imagery, treating the medium as a set of constraints to be tested rather than a finish to be applied. His work has appeared in AnOther, Dazed, Garage, POP and T: The New York Times Style Magazine. Commercial clients include Prada, Marni, Hermès, Kenzo, Nike and Stella McCartney. He has been Art Director at Collina Strada since 2019.
EVENT
CONTRASTE at Rencontres d'arles
COLORS unveils CONTRASTE, a new entity dedicated to art and culture. For the Rencontres d’Arles, CONTRASTE brings together twelve artists whose practices intersect around photography: as trace, language, material, or starting point. This exhibition is conceived as a space for encounters between contemporary artists, directors, and photographers. It sketches a dialogue between visual writing and contemporary forms of narration. The exhibition thus celebrates the porosity of practices and the power of creative collaborations. It affirms a vision in which artists are no longer positioned at the margins of the image industries, but as central forces capable of shifting perspectives and reinventing contemporary visual narratives.
NEW DIRECTOR
HUGO DAVID
Hugo joins our roster of new directors. After studying film in Montpellier, Hugo David worked for a time on a local TV series before being entrusted by Jean-Baptiste Durand, his former professor, with directing the making-of documentary for his feature film Chien de la casse, shot in late 2021.
It was during this shoot that he met Raphaël Quenard, and their first short film L’Acteur was born — a project for which they would both receive César nominations. This collaboration continued with the feature film I Love Peru, released in cinemas in 2025 and selected for the 78th edition of the Cannes Film Festival. Today, Hugo is a writer on various projects while developing his second feature film.
