François Vogel
Born in Meudon, François Vogel is a French artist, researcher and director working across short films, music videos, commercials, video installations and photography. His universe, at once absurd and poetic, sets out to unsettle our perception of the real by stretching it, distorting it, fragmenting it. A turning point came with his discovery of the pinhole: a minute hole pierced into a black box, letting light travel straight from the world to the image, with no lens, no optics, only air — a pure, almost mathematical process. He explored its every geometric possibility by curving, creasing and folding photographic paper inside the box, before finding ways to reproduce those distortions by computer. Today Vogel uses digital and optical tools to bend reality, capturing images through devices of spatio-temporal distortion that transform them without altering their essence — inventing new laws of perspective, and pulling the eye into a singular, warped world.
