Hugues Simon

A self-taught French artist, Hugues Simon worked in the Paris film industry before moving to Switzerland, where he turned to audiovisual production and brand communication, an experience that continues to inform his artistic language. His vibrant, saturated works resemble an emotional big bang, combining flayed figures, reptilian forms and cultural objects within a chaotic iconography. The density of content becomes almost oppressive, reflecting the harshness of an urban civilisation whose animality is never fully contained. Geometric disorder evokes an environment of continuous message production in which listening is scrambled and communication breaks down. A recurring warrior-guardian, drawn from the vocabulary of ancient and non-Western arts, appears like a retinal warning. Through this figure, Simon asks what place each of us occupies within the surrounding chaos.
